Marilyn's Story
I grew up in the countryside in what was called Peel County, now known as Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.
I attended Lorne Park Public School in the days when we walked across the Queen Elizabeth Highway.
I attended T. L. Kennedy High School in Cooksville leaving there in 1961.
I attended Lakeshore Teachers College, in Toronto. I taught elementary school until 1968.
I married Jack Belleghem in 1964. We had met at Kennedy High when I was 15. We have three grown children.
I returned to continue my education when I was 30 to achieve an undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto at Mississauga in what used to be called Erindale.
I completed a Masters Degree in Adult Education and Applied Psychology from the University of Toronto, at the Ontario Institute For Studies In Education, also known as OISE.
I did post graduate work at the University of Guelph on a part time basis to get the required courses to become a clinical member of the Ontario Division of The American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. I was a Registered Marriage and Family Therapist with a private practice in Georgetown, then Oakville then Burlington, Ontario, Canada.
I was incorporated in 1978 and have been in business over 40 years. I consulted to families in business on their personal and professional relationships. I also enjoy public speaking to small groups as well as at large conferences .
My first memoir Questing Marilyn: In Search of My Holy Grail, Personal Growth Through Travel (2003) is about the search for the authentic adult Self. I tour England and Ireland to historic and sacred sites asking; "Who can I be when I am free to be me?" I incorporate many of the life skills I used in my work that my readers can apply in their own lives. Questing Marilyn is available in both the printe...Expand for more
d version and as an E-Book online, at independent book stores and ask your local library.
My second memoir, Questing France: Deepening the Search for My Holy Grail is about holding onto the Self when married. Questing France asks the question; "Can I be me when I am with you?" I confronting infidelity, cope with a separation, choose a reconciliation and enjoy a fabulous 25th wedding anniversary trip through France.
My third memoir Questing Home: A Safe Place for My Holy Grail, continues my story incorporating how travel is a healing and growing experience. It also recounts my discovery that Jack had returned to me following the discovery of an inheritance from my grandmother. His extracurricular romantic adventures had continued. Our separation date coincides with the final payout of my inheritance. Questing Home focuses on bullying through the divorce process, the tactics used to avoid accepting responsibility for child and spousal support, assisting children with launching their own lives and rebuilding my life as a single woman.
My stories assist readers with personal growth through the challenges of adult life. They read like novels.
Reconnecting with people I once knew at school and with whom I had lost touch is leading to many fun times, wonderful sharing of stories and lots of laughs.
After eight years as a single woman I met Brian. From the first moment of sharing our lives we recognized that we had a deep affinity. We have been together since 1998 and have created a wonderful life together.
Brian and I travel extensively and love a new place to explore. We enjoy our home and local area and have been involved in a number of volunteer activities. We are the proud parents of five and grandparents of 12 wonderful and interesting grandchildren.
Thank you for visiting.
